Falls Are Not a Normal Part of Aging

According to the U.S. Centers

for Disease Control and Prevention:

  • One-fourth of Americans aged 65+ falls each year.
  • Every 11 seconds, an older adult is treated in the emergency room for a fall; every 19 minutes, an older adult dies from a fall.
  • Falls are the leading cause of fatal injury and the most common cause of nonfatal trauma-related hospital admissions among older adults.

Most falls can be prevented! Help reduce the risks! Prevent falls and injury by sharing the links below.

Sever's Disease, fracture, or growing pains?

We see many young athletes with pain at the bottom and back borders of the heel. Sever's Disease is quite common in children between the ages of 8-14. This is caused by inflammation at the growth center of the heel bone usually brought on by excessive activity or exercise. The pain can be excruciating and often does not respond to home remedies. X-rays should be taken because these exact symptoms can mimic a stress fracture. Treatment may be as simple as "rest and recovery" or "stretching and strengthening". Our doctors are here to care for your child if they experience any of these symptoms.

YOU...ONLY BETTER!

MINUS THE BUNION!

Spring into summer without the pain and discomfort

of that bothersome bunion/bunionette!

As the bony protrusion on the side of the big toe joint or side of the fifth toe joint progresses it constantly rubs on your shoes aggravating the condition. This leaves a red swollen, painful bump. The condition will only worsen if left unattended making future treatment more complicated.

OTC Shoe Inserts or Custom Orthotics ?

Your Feet Are Your Foundation!

Shoe inserts may come in a variety of shapes and sizes, but they're not custom-designed for your feet. Custom orthotics are fabricated only after a podiatrist has conducted a complete evaluation of your feet and ankles. The information gathered during the exam will help our doctors determine if shoe inserts might be helpful or if you need prescription custom molded orthotics.

Our custom orthotics help control abnormal foot motion, provide stablity, and correct injury-causing imbalances. Orthotics relieve pain caused by heel spurs, plantar fasciitis, bunions, shin splints, tendinitis and other conditions. Orthotics are a must for most athletes and helpful for many of the more common foot problems people encounter.

Prescription orthotics are made of specialized materials designed for long-term use.

Look for the "DPM"

Feet are complex anatomical structures, all-in-one stabilizers, shock absorbers, and propulsion engines that are instrumental to overall health and well-being. They require expert care. Be sure you are seeing the most qualified health-care professional to treat your feet by looking for the letters"DPM" after his or her name. The DPM means a physician has completed years of rigorous foot and ankle training in podiatric medical school and hospital-based residency training, making him or her uniquely qualified to care for this part of the body.

Doctors of Podiatric Medicine are podiatric physicians and surgeons, also know as Podiatrist, qualified by their education, training, and experience to diagnose and treat conditions affecting the foot, ankle, and related structures of the leg.
