and death in the United States. One in 10 Americans

have diabetes - that's more than 30 million people.

And another 84 million adults in the United States

are at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

Diabetes by the Numbers in Texas

Diabetes is currently one of the ten leading causes

of death in Texas. In 2012, 1,919,500 people in

Texas were estimated to have diabetes, and the

disease was estimated to affect the health of 7.3

percent of the adult population.

So why do our podiatrists want to educate their

patients about diabetes?

While diabetes is the leading cause of non-

traumatic lower limb amputation, these

amputations can be prevented.

Diabetes Can Cause Neuropathy!

Neuropathy is a condition characterized by numbness and burning in the feet. Appropriate shoes and custom orthotics (shoe inserts) can be invaluable in providing the protection and support necessary to prevent dangerous wounds.

$100 off your second pair of custom orthotics

when ordered at the same time as your first pair

Are your Orthotics or Insoles Not Comfortable and Just Not Helping!!

The doctors at Louetta Foot and Ankle are here to help and evaluate your inserts and solve your foot problems. We may be able to adjust them or make you a proper fitting device that will not be too hard, too thick or too wide. Most importantly we will assess your problem to see if your prior diagnosis and treatment plan needs adjusting. This even includes orthotics not made by us.

Thanksgiving really means!

Although bunions tend to run in

families, it is the foot type that is

passed down-not the bunion.

The symptoms of a bunion include the following:

  • Development of a swelling, callus or firm bump on the outside edge of the foot, at the base of the big toe
  • Redness, swelling, or pain at or near the MTP joint
  • Development of hammertoes or calluses under the ball of the foot
  • Corns or other irritations caused by the overlap of the first and second toes
  • Restricted or painful motion of the big toe

If you are experiencing bunion pain, come see one of our doctors at Louetta Foot and Ankle. Bunions tend to get larger and more painful if left untreated, making non-surgical treatment less of an option.

Look for the "DPM"

Feet are complex anatomical structures, all-in-one stabilizers, shock absorbers, and propulsion engines that are instrumental to overall health and well-being. They require expert care. Be sure you are seeing the most qualified health-care professional to treat your feet by looking for the letters"DPM" after his or her name. The DPM means a physician has completed years of rigorous foot and ankle training in podiatric medical school and hospital-based residency training, making him or her uniquely qualified to care for this part of the body.

Doctors of Podiatric Medicine are podiatric physicians and surgeons, also know as Podiatrist, qualified by their education, training, and experience to diagnose and treat conditions affecting the foot, ankle, and related structures of the leg.
