The front staff are not as accommodating and sometimes curt. You can't add a tip by paying with a card. This greatly inconveniences the customer, and punishes the stylist. Not cool. Salon Above has a lovely calm and airy feel about it, a restful oasis above the bustle of Broadway. The front desk staff is courteous and efficient. And the prices are reasonable, particularly given that it is an Aveda Concept Salon, with top-notch professionals and an Upper West location. And then there's mega-talented Tony Sgro - - a master colorist and stylist who is also an Aveda Institute instructor. Besides his wow-ing skill sets and years of experience, Tony possesses a right-on aesthetic sense, truly "gets" his Clients and really listens to them. Within minutes of meeting Tony at my initial consultation, he had come up with a game plan to rid my long highlighted hair of its brassiness. The wonderful results: Artfully rendered, natural looking high- and low-lights against a vibrant, rich-toned base color and overall enhanced condition and vitality of my hair. Plus I appreciate that Tony is not "cut crazy," as some expert stylists are. When it comes to long hair [always my thing], he is wonderfully supportive and concurs that it's the WOMAN, not her age, that should be the guiding principle. Tony does GLAMOUR! great! And his superlative cutting skills are such that even his small snips work wonders in making a long style work. Oh, and did I mention that Tony is also an all-round great guy who is a delight to schmooze with??
