The optometrist was knowledgeable and did a great job. I feel my prescription was updated sufficiently. I decided to try progressive lenses this time since I needed some relief for working at a computer and being able to read without always having to take my glasses off or look underneath them. My experience with the people selling the glasses was not pleasant. First, I think they tried to sell me the most expensive option they could. When the cost of the glasses after insurance reached close to $800, I indicated that we needed to change direction a bit and get to a more economical option. The staff seemed less willing to help after I made that decision but we went through another frame selection and set of lense options. The staff was not knowledgeable at all about the insurance coverage and options. Secondly while taking measureaments for my eyes and lenses my past experience is that optics personnel use the device that looks like a set of binoculars to determine the center of my eyes and the distance between. These particular individuals did not do this. Instead they used a (sharpie)black magic marker, closed one eye and attempted to put a mark on each lense of my new frames. No pun intended but they literally "eyeballed" it. My comment was that I didn't think this was very scientific since the marks were kind of squiggled and not very precise. It took a couple of trys to get it the way they wanted or thought it should be. When I received the glasses there was no attempt to fit them other than how do they feel. I indicated "not bad". Others in the past have at least personnally checked for the right fit around the ears and such. Also, they indicated that it would take a week or so to get use to the progressive lenses. This currently where I am having trouble adjusting. Feeling dizzy, periphial vision is blurred. Feel like I am cross-eyed. Can't look down. Don't dare try and drive with these things for fear of causing an accident. Better yet, try golfing with these things. Maybe this is common with progressive lens but I can't imagine it is.
