The switch at the brake was not working -- bleeding brake lines excessive force in pushing brake pedal??? will never know. I will not be returning to Lewisville Midas with any of my vehicles. Ford recommends lug torque of 95 lb/ft and that's what we used on this vehicle. Using 110 lb/ft is not recommended b/c it can cause damage to the lugs, studs and rotors. But if the customer wishes to increase the torque at his home he of course is free to do so. I even showed Mr. Johnson the specs we use from AllData online resource. As far as the wheelcovers, if anything was damaged here we will be happy to repair or replace. Regarding the brake pedal switch, comments to me from Mr. Johnson were that his spouse drives the car and it was unknown if the cruise cntrl was working just prior to bringing the car to me. Pretty far-fetched to say that using excessive force in bleeding the brakes caused damage to a brake switch - pure speculation. Particularly when you consider that we used a Vacula to bleed the brakes. No shop is perfect and I step up and take responsibility when we do something wrong. It died less than 8 months later after guarantees that everything was fine. Took it back in for repairs again, car died less than a week later. A separate, independent mechanic (certified) revealed that Midas had put a fue pump and head gasket on incorrectly. Attempt to get them to do it right, resulted in them saying the distributor was shot due to leaky oil, which was due to THEM putting the gasket on wrong. They refused any relief. We have reported deceptive practice report to Attorney General and filed complaints with BBB. By the way they double and TRIPLE parts cost to consumers. DO NOT do business with these people! In Nov 2011 we installed, among other things, a fuel pump and VALVE COVER GASKETS (NOT head gaskets). 8 months later the customer brought car to A COMPETITOR shop which told her the fuel pump we installed was bad. Cust called here and tried to intimidate us into agreeing to a free tow and free work on the vehicle, sight unseen, and 8 months after we?d last seen it. We agreed to look at the car if it was towed to us and if the fuel pump was bad we?d honor the 1 yr part warranty. Vehicle came in under tow and we tested the fuel pump and determined it functioned normally, but the internal distributor seal had broken (a common problem on this engine) causing motor oil to saturate the distributor and its electronics, ruining the distributor. Cust declined the distributor repair and had car towed away. We charged nothing for the 1 hr we spent diagnosing a clearly unrelated problem. Nothing we did in Nov 2011 contributed to the current issue with the distributor. The seal that failed is integral to the distributor. At no point did this shop remove, fix or otherwise service the distributor. You do not touch the distributor to do valve cover gaskets! Also, I note that the Nov 2011 initial repair we picked up the car from the customer?s home in Coppell and when work was done we delivered it to the customer?s workplace in Farmers Branch free of charge. I guess no good deed goes unpunished. So, to recap, we properly repaired the vehicle on 2011 (with free drop off service). It ran fine for 8 months. Another unrelated problem made the car stop running. We diagnosed the problem for free. Not only was I able to get it in and done the same day, they did the job, with new parts for considerably less than the dealer. The workmanship on the water pump was great. It looks like a factory job and works great. I have used this Midas shop in the past and they do a great job. They have recently switched owners but the service is still top notch and will use them in the future.
