Our vehicle uses synthetic oil so I knew we would be charged extra. We ended up with a bill for $31.65 WITH the coupon because of the oil. I then calculated our total to be $39.98 ($31.65+$8.33 for the coupon). Seemed extreme so I checked around. Walmart carries Mobile 1 (5 quart) for $24.97. Arrowhead Honda has a non-promotional rate of $37.95 plus tax. Therefore, Carlife would be a much more expensive option. I called & explained this to the staff who said someone would get back to me. No one has. I dropped off the vehicle for an oil change and informed the clerk about a light illuminated on the dash. He told me they would run a diagnostic test and if it wasn't anything major there would not be a charge for the test. A few hours later, I received a call from Carlife informing me there was a problem with the brake light switch and it would need to be replaced for $193 (including the diagnostic test). I directed him to proceed with the work because I was told the brake lights were not working. Shortly thereafter, I informed my husband about the repairs that needed to be made and he advised me he had just read about a recall from KIA. I called Carlife back and advised them about the recall and to discontinue the work and that I would be taking the vehicle to the dealer. I was charged $118 for the diagnostic test. As consolation, I was graciously offered two $20 coupons but under the circumstances, I no longer feel comfortable with Carlife. I was under the impression repair shops should know about recalls?
