I've been having the same problems with my truck for years (and I had been to three different dealerships) and no one could tell me what was wrong...until now! I must provide it here. My vehicle was bought in with two issues: check engine light and engine noise. I stated it was important to have the repairs effected on the same day. I feel it is not unreasonable to expect repairs to be effected on the same day. Certainly some issues, particularly those related to a check engine light can be complex and can result in barriers to same day service. However engine noises again with certain exceptions are not. In this matter the noise was identified as a Power steering belt tensioner (idler pulley) I made significant efforts to have my vehicle available for repair as soon as possible, arriving early Monday morning. I attempted to make a reservation on Saturday. It could not be confirmed. (Suggestion: Prohibit reservations made Saturday for Monday) The vehicle was not looked at until 1:30 in the afternoon. a repair diagnosis was not provided until 3:00 and the shop closed at 5:30. What I was left with was a question as to whether or not I wanted to keep the vehicle, I did. The cost of repair was well over 1000 dollars, still not a deal breaker, and the repairs would take an indeterminate amount of time. Further direct questioning had the service time narrowed to about three days. The explanation for the delay was based on a poorly formed excuse involving special handling, extended interaction with the vehicle manufacturer and that if I wanted it to accelerate the repair significant additional costs would be incurred. Oh and the idler pulley? I'd had better get that done right away. Could it be done today? No it's too late in the day. A quick check of the internet found that the check engine light issue was quite common. The manufacturer had no involvement in any remanufacturing process and that an active after market industry existed to address the matter. No mystery, no big deal. Certainly not the monumental task I was lead to believe. Bottom line: The repairs could have been triaged better: Address the matters that will prevent the vehicle from running. Belt tensioner. Remove and replace, throw in some new belts, check the power steering pump for proper function. -Money in the bank. Address the esoteric issue of how to get a vintage part later. The service writer needs to be more upfront about the process. Service writing is an art and is difficult. I get that. But I needed my truck working. I just relocated to Austin, and needed my 9 year old car prepared for a long road trip, but did not know where to take it. I randomly selected Dave's after viewing their website. They were absolutely fantastic to work with! Not only were they friendly, knowledgeable, and expedient, but Todd explained everything that my car needed, AND everything that it didn't, including explaining why I didn't need all the repairs I was certain that it would, and explained how much wear there was, so I would know how long it would be before I did need the work done. For a women, this alone makes a garage trust worthy of my business. Dave's also has very reasonable prices. They are also connected with a car rental place, that will pick you up from Dave's to get a rental, and they are also incredibly reasonably priced. I arrived at 8:30am to get a free brake check. I was driven to work by one of their staff members and called with an estimate on what my brakes would cost about 5 hours later. I approved the amount and went to pick up my car within the next few hours. When I arrived I was notified they had completed a courtesy check of my entire car and had a list of recommended maintenance to complete within the next 3-4 months. It was greatly appreciated. I was given the courtesy check to keep for my records and the staff was extremely friendly. I will be returning to Dave's for anything I need.
