I disagree with the excessive testing that was performed on Loki. he is a 2yr old little boy who was seen for the 1st time with urinary problem and has a healthy medical history. I am a ICU nurse working on a graduate degree and I am aware of the protocol for treating patients. I only allowed the extra testing because I wanted to get a baseline for future exams. He presented with urinary symptoms & should have been started off with UA/C&S, poss CBC for infection. he did not need chem panel or bladder scanning. this was extra $$ for us, $270 total, plus recheck. I hope his check-up warrants better respect in assessment. In the future I will bemore cautious of testing I allow to be performed on my beloved pet. Cheryl Wilson, RN-BSN

Johnsen Veterinary Services replied:

I understand your concern for your pet. Let me explain that the primary complaint to me was that your dog was acting sick and his belly was bloated as well as urinating in the house. In this case I am always concerned about pancreatits so the bloodwork was warranted in my opinion. I obtained a urine sample through cystocentesis which I used the ultrasound for in order to do a clean stick into his bladder and not guess where his bladder was. As well I do not routinely do a C & S on the first bladder infection because it is costly (over $100) and antibiotics usually take care of the problem. I have been practicing for 20 years and am very knowledgable about my job. I never overcharge people nor do unnecessary testing. His bladder pH was very high and hopefully you will have this rechecked because he could form stones and a cystotomy is $700. (in Bullitt County). It runs about $1500 in Jefferson County.

Pam and her staff have been great with all of my dogs. I have been taking them there for over 6 years. If you want someone to tell you the honest truth then your at the best place in town and surrounding counties to be exact. Her personal life outside her business is not anyone's business and she must have done something right she is still open for business and have new customers coming in everyday. She has customers like me for life, and we would not have her or her staff any other way.

Panther our male cat had to have emergency surgery because of a urinary infection. He came out of the surgery and is doing real good. Will have to stay in the Vet Hospital for 4 to 5 days to recovery. Very pleased with his care and we are being updated daily on his status.

DVM Pam and team were very accommodating and helpful. We have 3 large dogs and all come into the room together. They do a great job of multitasking and helping keep our dogs and us calm throughout the yearly checkup, shots, and nail trim experience. Great job and TY.
