After going to Willow Creek for so long and as my only vet, I was expecting the worst. I was used to busting a whole paycheck for something as simple as a tract infection and the vets pushing me for $2,000 blood work on top of the expensive visit. I was also accustomed to a very in and out atmosphere, with the business being just that -- a business. I was under the impression that all vets were the same, just people running a business and trying to make money off my sick pet. After being informed by a friend that works as a vet that Willow Creek is a fine establishment, but they have top of the line equipment and pass that cost on to their patrons, I asked around for where I should take my little cat girl next.
In comes Silver Maple. As stated before, I had low hopes, but thought it couldn't get any worse, so I'll give them a try. I was pleasantly surprised. My cat was hiding in the basement but had come out after a week or so and I desperately wanted to take her to the vet. I called up Silver Maple and was greeted by a kind accommodating woman. I told her there was one problem, that she might not come out when I bring her carrier down. The worst case happened and my little girl was hiding come time for the appointment. We called to cancel, incredibly upset that she wouldn't come out, and Silver Maple offered to let us bring her in whenever she would come out, and to not have to schedule an appointment. I couldn't believe the kindness that was being extended to my little cat family.
Fast forward to the visit itself, I was in the vet room exhausted from a double shift at work, and just generally a nervous wreck. Will they be nice to my cat, she's very upset. At my last vet when she would get angry, they would seem to be annoyed by it. Will they try to charge me for things I don't need? How do I know what she needs and doesn't need? To sum it up, I was wondering if this vet, too, would take advantage of me. I don't remember my vet's name, but she was also incredibly kind and accommodating, just how the front desk was. At Silver Maple, the service starts as soon as you enter the door.
The vet saw my little girl was getting angry, but she also saw that she was just scared. She was very calm and gentle with my cat. When it was apparent that she was too scared and angry to just work on, she was taken into a back room to be restrained. At my previous vet, they restrained her in front of me and I had to watch in horror as they did what they had to do. Granted, it was necessary to look at her, but I think it's a nice touch that Silver Maple takes them to a separate room.
The end of the visit rolled around, and it was time to discuss money. At Willow Creek, they tried to shove things down my throat, such as that $2,000 blood work. They would try and make you believe that it was life or death and that it needed to happen or you were a bad cat momma. I was - again - pleasantly surprised to see that my bill was HALF the cost of my Willow Creek bill, for something that required more medication and a head cone. The vet that was working with me gave me a rundown of our options, stating very clearly that they were indeed options and not necessities. I was offered the antibiotic for her that lasts two weeks, and a pain medication that lasts a few days. The vet was very clear on what was needed to heal and what would just be helpful, and also the price. The way that she spoke made it apparent that she was not out to make money, but that she truly cared about my cat and her needs.
In summation, if you have never been to Silver Maple I suggest you schedule your next appointment there. The staff is friendly, kind, and accomodating, the rooms are clean, and the prices can't be beat! Truly a quality establishment. I usually don't take the time to fill out these review things, but as I write on my phone, my little cat girl is sitting in my lap, happy and purring despite the cone on her head. It's hard to believe that less than a week ago she was hiding in the basement, in pain, and acting like she was feral. I am ever grateful that I can hold her again and see in her eyes that she is okay - and I have Silver Maple to thank for that.
