Carlsbad Dental Excellence: Michael F. Manhard, DDS

When I asked last summer whether the practice accepted Blue Shield - I was told yes. Apparently what I should have been told is - "we are not a preferred provider but we will bill for you." I am very upset that I will have to pay for the cleaning yesterday when I thought AT LEAST Blue Shield pays for all cleaning since they paid nothing for the two crowns I needed, nor the removal of the cantilever, nor the exam including x-rays. But I was advised that now need to pay for whatever is NOT covered by Blue Shield. So now I have a decision to make - do I change dentists to a Blue Shield preferred provider or do I cancel Blue Shield as $44/m is a lot to pay for no coverage so far.....
otherwise, I do like Dr. Manhard and Crystal - I am just upset that reality was edited when I asked about dental plans.

Dr. Manhard is an excellent dentist and a fine person. I have been a patient of his for many years. .in fact, I 'followed' him from his previous office, which was a LOT closer to my home. That is saying a lot, as I have been fearful of "the dentist" since childhood.

I highly recommend Dr. Manhard, for his skill and easy going manner.

It is not the 'quality of dentistry' I have a problem with. It is the 'honesty' of the office staff. HOW would YOU feel, after having stood there, face to face with them, where they told you; "Your insurance will pay for 100% of this procedure, you just need to pay a $50 co-pay". . . you pay the co-pay, have the procedure done and a month later you get a bill for $227 !?! . . AND they are being nasty about 'collecting' it !

Sorry, that feels like "bait & switch" to me AND. . lying, cheating and just dishonest business practices. I have got a feeling I will NOT be using these folks again for my dental needs. It is too bad, as Dr. Manhard is a nice, competent man. But, I am feeling screwed. Your mileage may vary.

Dr. Manhard is the BEST!! I have always been afraid to have Dental work since I had many horrible experiences growing up. Still at 25 yrs I get nervous but Dr. Manhard is amazing! I will not go with anyone else. Ill be moving soon but I will fly down to see him, that's how well my experiences have been in this office.

Everyone was helpful and knowledgeable in their own area. Most importantly all were friendly. I forgot I was in dentist office for a brief moment...of course I was easily reminded when Dr. Manhard started drilling on my tooth.
