My car has 200K miles on it and was going through about 2 quarts of oil per gas fill up. Figured the rings were shot.
Went to SAR (Sherwood Auto Repair) to get a quote on the R&R (remove and replace the engine) along with going though the transmission at the same time when they pull the engine. Expected large $$$$ quote.
After the inspection, Scott indicated that I did not need a new engine. The compression test came out OK but I did have several oil leaks. He indicated that after fixing those for minimium $$, I should get another 50000 miles out of the engine which apparently has a good long life track record. Amazing what a certified technican knows.
Another shop may have just charged me for the R&R. I probably would not have noticed.
