My daughter was having a lot of anxiety around having a filling put in on her first cavity. We attempted to have it done twice at our family dentist and she had panic attacks and major anxiety. Lots of tears and fear. She even went through with the Novocain shot at one point and then was so upset that she couldn't feel her face she was even more panicked and upset, her anxiety escalated and we called it a day deciding we would wait a little while. It would be months before we took care of the cavity :(

I put out a call on Facebook to see if anyone could recommend a dentist that would be able to handle the situation. My friend Matt returned my request with Dr. Kozica's information and a testimonial of his own, praising laser dentistry and the relief of not having to feel pain and deal with the drill, if possible. Stating he would never go back to the "old" way of dentistry.

I made an appointment for her and told her about the laser, she seemed relieved after I explained how it was different than the usual dentistry style. I was still nervous for her.

When I called the administrative assistant was so kind and assured me that they would make extra time for Zoe due to the circumstances. They sent the paperwork to me so I could have it ready when I went to the appointment and she took my insurance info over the phone so it was on file and we were ready to get down to business on the day of her appointment.

When we got there they were just as nice, even offering me a coffee and making jokes, really easing both mine, and my daughters nerves.

The wait was minimal. They took Zoe to the dental chair and Dr. Kozica spoke to me about Zoe's situation and reassured me that he would do his best. He said that he may even be able to do it without Novocain if the cavity wasn't too deep. He allowed me to sit in a chair behind their working area so Zoe knew I was there but she wasn't looking right at me. He and his assistant were gentle and kind and spoke to Zoe very respectfully and encouragingly letting her know what he was doing as he went and what to expect next.

SHE DID IT! She got through it with no tears and no panic. She walked out of there with a smile on her face and agreed that this was the new dentist for her! The doc told me it was definitely more infected that he would have liked, but with his technology he was able to see that he got it all without having to use the drill or Novocain to go any deeper.

In my opinion Dr. Kozica is a ROCK STAR and his team are a wonderful compliment to his practice.

If anyone has ever experience anxiety surrounding dental work you can understand how much this means to us as a family. Knowing my daughter is happy and not afraid. She is so proud of herself that she got through it and is not afraid to go back.

I was so pleased and impressed that I made an appointment for my own consultation. A long overdue consultation for which I am afraid to hear all the work I need. However, after Zoe's experience I am not afraid. I have major anxiety around dental work from bad experiences in the past. It weighs on me daily that I need to have this work done for my dental health and overall health, but I was too scared. I am no longer scared and looking forward to getting the process started so that I can take care of my neglected teeth and feel better about myself!
